This Museum and its exhibits must serve as important reminders to all visitors that there must always be the commitment to peace and respect for humanity. The STB would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners who have been supportive of the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII commemoration which has offered a comprehensive programme of activities ranging from commemoration services, heritage tours, WWII themed exhibitions and conferences as well as special promotions at various WWII sites and attractions.

We also want to acknowledge the various organizations who have assisted in the refurbishment of the Museum, the operators — The Changi Museum, as well as the National Heritage Board and the National Archives of Singapore. Last but not least, I wish to thank all the veterans who are with us today. Many of you have traveled thousands of miles to participate in this commemoration with us.

Thank you for making the journey some 60 years ago to defend the citizens of a far-flung land called Singapore. Your selfless contributions to protect and create peace in this part of the world have contributed to the prosperity that we see around us today. Our lives are inextricably linked and now, it is my honour to stand here with you to remember and honour those who have fallen in sacrifice of many others.
